Wee Puppy Fitness~FitDog Friday

Today Pink Girl Puppy and Blue Boy Puppy will be turning 1 week old at 10:45 pm. The rest of the gang will need to wait until 12:00 am to turn a week old. In this week the wee puppy are already starting their fitness routine. After watching these guys I really think they have the hardest routines.

First off the were just born and need to learn to walk while having no site or no hearing. All they have is their sense of smell and touch to get around, with saying that they may have to go a long ways to get to mom. Mom gets up and moves around the whelping box so then the wee little ones have to crawl across the box to find mom.

Once by mom they have to crawl to find their spot, there spot may be a certain nipple or

just a snooze on their brother to cover up his junk so this isn’t a porn picture.

One is on the go again, if they aren’t nursing, sleeping they are on the move.

Then their nursing they are exercising their tail as they are wagging a mile a minute burning so many calories.

While nursing they are also strengthening their back leg muscles by having to push themselves up to the nipple, they are also using their front leg muscles to knead while they are nursing. The kneading action stimulates the milk letdown so they get to have milk.

Turning over and rolling over burns calories and gains strength in different muscles.

So you can see the wee puppies even know only a week old have to do so much to grow and be strong. Mom Glory is also doing her part even know she is probably loosing muscle mass because all she does is lay in her whelping box and take care of the puppies only going outside to potty and back in she is burning a ton of calories producing milk and nursing her wee puppies. I have been keeping her food dish filled and adding canned food to get her to eat it all and supplementing with protein bars so she can keep producing milk. It’s a rough life but as you can see from the picture Glory doesn’t mind at all taking care of all her and Thunders precious puppies.

G Dynasty

Move over Duck Dynasty there’s a new kid in town. It’s G Dynasty!

He’s making kids at Lincoln Elementary School smile which in turn makes me smile.

This is what the kids did for our therapy session which was right before Memorial day. I just love to hear the kids giggle when they are dressing Gambler, then the kids have to try on the stuff themselves.

This last Friday I took a bunch of wigs and weird glasses.

I had to explain what a mullet was, the kids didn’t know what it was but the teacher said “my boyfriend had a mullet”.

Of course we had to have some mischief during our therapy visit. If your my friend on facebook you already know what is coming next, if your not my friend just search for JoAnn Stancer and you will find me, friend me and get a laugh every now and then.

Soooo Friday morning I took Gambler out to our hay field to run his blinds. The hay field is over 2 ft tall by now. I set out the blinds, went and got G, ran his blinds and then went back into the house for a couple of hours before we went to therapy. Time came and we went to therapy, the second boy was brushing Gambler and joking I said “I hope you don’t find any ticks on him”. The boy asked what ticks were so I told him they were little black bugs. All of a sudden the boy goes “what is this black thing on him” ? I look and by gosh it was a tick, it was attached so I had to pull it off. The boy stepped back and was looking at it really weird. The teacher heard us and came running over…..”I want to  see it, I never saw at tick before, I have a dog but don’t know what they look like”. I showed her then crushed it and was apologizing up and down that my dog had a tick on him in the class room. As I was talking to the teacher the boy said “I found another one, and another, and another” for a total of 6 ticks! He was really getting into finding them and was looking over Gambler with a fine tooth comb. His time with Gambler was up so the teacher told him he was done and had to go back to class but the boy didn’t want to leave he wanted to find more ticks. Note to self: self, don’t take Gambler running through the tall grass before therapy.

Gambler does such a great job at therapy he get’s to have Cherry Berry ice cream when he is done.

A Glorious Thank You To Thunder

Glory and I are back in WI after a very lovely stay with Thunder and his family from 2browndawgs. We can’t thank Linda, Jim, Thunder, Storm, Freighter and Nestle for such a warm welcome. Glory and I got to stay and hang out with them until Glory was done being bred by Thunder. It was such a great time, the dogs all got along great, Glory made herself at home and was a good house guest. I couldn’t be more please by how she acted. I wanted to get some pictures of Thunder and Glory together for the new puppy buyers so one day we went to the park to get some photos. Here are the photos that I took in no particular order. They had to be that far apart or there would of been some puppy making going on in public.

The swans, geese and a mallard wanted to join in on the photo shoot.

The baby goslings were so darn cute hopefully in 63 days we will have Glorious Thunder puppies. Everything went according to planned I can’t thank the Grabinski’s enough for opening their house to Glory and I as well as having their friend Cindy come over and help without her we couldn’t have gotten this done so thank you Cindy.

We will know if this breeding took place in about a month when I will have a ultrasound done to confirm a pregnancy then if pregnant another month later we will hear the pitter patter of puppie feet.

We are joining Linda at 2browndawgs and Jodi at Heart Like A Dog for this great blog hop.

That sad day is in the past and we are moving on the the present and then the future with hopes of happy days ahead. Tomorrow we are headed to meet Glory’s boyfriend. Sending good thoughts Glory and Thunders way for a successful breeding, a healthy pregnancy and whelp and many bouncy happy burrheads to  share their lives with some really lucky peoples. We at Sand Spring Chesapeakes will be one of those lucky peoples as we will be keeping a puppy from this breeding. You can check out Thunder on 2browndawgs page.

FitDog Friday~Training With Friends

Tuesday I posted up pictures of my friend Dana’s dogs while we were out training on the weekend. You can see them here. Today I will show you the training pictures I took of the SS gang from that day. John was running the dogs as Gambler has his first hunt test tomorrow and John will have to run him at the test while I am taking Glory to Michigan. I was out in the field throwing the mark. Both dogs are coming along great with their training even know it is early in the season. I hope Gambler has had enough training to pull off a pass this weekend. Good Luck Gman you can do it!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Yesterday we were at the Minnesota American Chesapeake Club annual fun day. It’s a day just for Cheasapeakes their owners and for friends to gather for a good time. There was a raffle and I put all my tickets in the buckets for the white bumpers so we can do longer marks and have the dogs see them better and of course I had to win the baby Avery teal bumper for the hopes of using it on a new puppy… Hint hint Glory and Thunder.

{This Moment} See Beautiful: Water Blinds~FitDog Friday

Last week we trained with our training group, it was a cold cloudy day so I didn’t take the camera out to get any pictures. Over the weekend thou it warmed up so I was able to take some pictures of John doing water blinds on our pond with Gambler and Glory. The pond temperature is probably in the 40’s so still not the warmest but our chessies don’t mind at all, they are water dogs and it has to be pretty darn cold for them not to go in the water. Each dog got three blinds then dried off really well.

First up was Glory.

Next was Gambler.

A blind is where we set out bumpers or ducks across the pond (the dogs don’t know where these are) use a whistle and hand signals to guide the dog in the straightest line possible to the bumper or duck. You sit the dog next to you in a heel position line the dog up and make sure their spine is lined up in the direction you want them to go along with their head. Once everything is lined up you say “back” and the dog takes off in hopefully a straight line. If the dog veers off a straight line by any amount you blow the whistle one time to get them to sit. Once they are sitting and looking at you you raise your arm up to give them the correct hand signal, which ever arm you raise up the dog must turn that way or that would be called a cast refusal. In the hunt test game you are only allowed so many cast refusals if it goes over that amount your dog fails. You can use as many casts as you need to but they all should be showing progress towards the blind. Once they get to the bumper or duck they pick it up and you call them back. They will then run in a straight line back to you, heel and deliver the item to hand.

Since I am late posting my post for today I have some big news to add I can’t wait until next weeks FitDog post so will share it now. It is FitDog Friday 2nd Anniversary over at Slimdoggy we love FitDog Friday and Slimdoggy as we get to share our fitness routine with the other hoppers, and learn how to keep the SS gang fit, learn all about nutrition and so much more. Last year on their 1st Anniversary the SS gang won their In The Hunt Award which we proudly display. This year Gambler won the award, he won the Class Clown Award (imagine that) and he will proudly display this award along side of the other one. Thank you FitDog Friday hosts for choosing Gambler!

Norman’s Kisses~Hand To Paw Cream and Chapstick

Homemade Chapstick & Hand Cream

My name is “JoAnn” and I am a chapstick addict! Gambler and Glory are chapsick addicts too!

Gambler and Glory are the first dogs that I’ve had that are in love with my chapstick. I can’t leave my jacket’s hanging on any chairs as they will try and dig in the pocket to get the chapstick out. This day Gman tipped over the chair trying to get at the goods. My keys have a chapstick attached to them also and they will jump on the counter to get my keys to get at the chapstick.

Give me the chapstick!

Gambler and Glory have eaten more tubes of chapstick then I can count on my two hands, for this reason I started looking into making it myself and seeing if I could save any money. I am buying chapstick on a monthly basis, at times I will by 6-8 tubes at a time and at $2-3 a tube it adds up quick with the chapstick mongers at home.

Video of Gman vs Chapstick

I did my research on Pinterest on different recipes and this is what I came up with.

Let’s get this party started!

Chapstick ingredients.

1.5 oz Beeswax

2.5 Tablespoons Olive Oil

2.5 Teaspoons Coconut Oil

2.5 Teaspoons Shea Butter

1/4 Teaspoons Vit. E

20 Drops Pepperment Oil

If you want the chapstick harder add more beeswax add less of the oils & shea butter, if want it softer add less of beeswax and  more of the oils & shea butter.

Double Boiler to melt the ingredients.

Melt ingredients, test consistency then then fill tubes.

Let stand until set.

Cap and label.

Norman’s Kisses LipBalm

– Put about a inch of water in a pan and bring to a mild boil.

– Put solid ingredients in glass bowl/measuring cup place into pan so it creates a double boiler effect.

– Stir ingredients as it is melting, taking caution that the steam will become hot and the bowl will become hot.

– Once solids are melted (if use pelleted beeswax it will be about 10 minutes, if use block beeswax it will take 20-30 mins) add olive oil and vit e.

– Mix well time to check consistency if you want to by putting a spoon in mixture and taking out a small amount. Place spoon in freezer for a small amount of time take out and try out.

– If consistency is good add flavoring oils at this time, mix well and then fill chapstick containers using a pipette or dropper.

– Let stand and when firm cap and label.

Hand Cream ingredients.

Double boiler effect to melt ingredients.

Once melted fill containers.

Filled containers.

Before set completely can engrave.

Norman’s Kisses Hand to Paw Cream

3 oz Beeswax

3 Tablespoons (2.5oz) Coconut Oil

3 Tablespoons (2.5oz) Sweet Almond Oil

1/2 Teaspoon Tea Tree Oil

1/2 Teaspoon Vit. E

Can be used on your hands or on your pets paws, nose or elbows.

The above recipes made 15 tubes of chapstick and 3 tubs of hand cream.

Where I got my ingredients, containers and tips I learned from making.

Beeswax: Pellets – Amazon, Block (16oz) – Hobby Lobby or  Bulk Apothecary

Vit E, Tea Tree Oil: Liquid 2-2.5oz – Walgreens

Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, Peppermint oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Lavender Oil: Amish Store

Chapstick containers: Bulk Apothecary

Hand Cream containers:  Hobby Lobby

Tips: Much easier to use beeswax pellets but if use block need a kitchen scale to measure out chunks you cut off. To cut I found it much easier to run a big knife under hot water and dry off then cut otherwise it took forever to try and get through it. I used a 1 cup measuring cup but if going to make a bigger batch I would get a 2 cup measuring cup so have more room to stir without spilling ingredients over. I would designate a old pan and measuring cups and spoon to stir because even after washing really good you can feel a slick creamy film on the stuff used. I liked being able to use liquid vit e vs capsules as I didn’t have to cut and squeeze the liquid out. If want to add color to lip balm chip off some lipstick into mixture while melting. Add the fragrance oils last so the fragrance holds up, the longer you cook the smell will dissipate.  If heat up shea butter to hot it will become grainy when set. I kept the melted liquid in the pan of boiling water as I filled the containers to keep it from setting up while I was filling. Need to use a pipette instead of pouring using the measuring cup spout as I tried that and the liquid ran down the outside of the cup. Once the chapstick sets you can top it off to fill up the tube as it will settle and have a indentation in the middle.

Cost of chapstick not including my time .38, handcream $2.09

This was a fun easy crafty project that I will keep doing. I’ve had great feedback from the girls at work who sampled both products.

I want to say thank you to Susan over at Talking Dogs for coming up with the name for this batch. I posted up on Facebook that I needed a name for my stuff and she came up with: Norman’s Kisses. What a beautiful name!

Now the fun stuff a Giveaway. I’m giving away 3 sets of hand cream and chapstick.

Pet Video Verify – No Microchip Needed For Your Pet

This is a guest post brought to you by:

Pet Video Verify – No Microchip Needed For Your Pet

Today lost and found pets are a big issue. Many pet owners have high anxiety that their pet is going to get lost. They should be worried, the statistics are that many pets do get lost, it is estimated that 1 in 3 pets will get lost sometime time in their lifetime. If you don’t act quickly and have systems in place, you may never see the pet again. Pet Video Verify is developing applications that help you put systems in place that help manage your pets better with this website.

Pet Video Verify pet video identification system is a patent pending system. This video identification system is trying to revolutionize how lost pets are found and returned to the owner. In the current version of the web application, the pet owner looks over the pet for special attributes and takes measurements, then they video the pet including the special attributes and measurements, you can see an example of a video identification by clicking here. When all these special attributes and measurements are put together, virtually any pet can be identified. A video of your pet is a lot better way to identify them because with a video you can get all parts of the pets body. In the future, we are going to include electronic measurements of the pet in the video!

Pet Video Verify has integrated another application into its software and it is the ability to store pet medical records online by visiting here. When you have access to your pet medical records online, you can access the medical records anytime you need them from any device that is connected to the Internet. Keeping your pet medical records online also help veterinarians because if your pet gets lost and ends up at the vet, the vet may not know the identity of your pet. The vet can use the video identification to identify your pet and also pull your pet’s medical records! Very helpful and can save your pet’s life!

Pet Video Verify has an application where pet owners can sell their used pet items to other pet owners. Pet owners search the Internet looking for pet items. Many would prefer pet items that have already been used and that the owner needs to get rid of, which can be found here. They can search Pet Video Verify for these items and contact the owner to purchase those items.

Pet Video Verify also receives pet coupons from major retailers at their site. We receive the coupons or deals from big retailers such as PetSmart! We push the coupons and deals directly to our users helping them find deals on new items that they need for their pet! We are getting new advertisers all the time so we receive lots of good coupons and deals!

Pet Video Verify also has a pet supply store for when you want new pet items instead of used ones!  We are updating these new pet items all the time.  Check out these items by clicking here!

You can also post your cute pet pictures for everyone to see on our website. People love cute pet pictures because they bring joy to their life. Pet owners love posting them because they are proud of their pet and they want them to bring joy to other people.  Also, look at funny pet videos by clicking here!

FitDog Friday~Playing With Saskatchewan Friends

The third day of our Saskatchewan Hunting Adventure landed us in Regina, Saskatchewan where we met up with our Canadian pals. I was lucky enough to meet these two gals through facebook a few years back and our friendship has really grown. Each year when we travel through Regina on our way to our hunting spot we stop for a visit with Patti & Jill. One year they traveled down to the little ole town of Cambria and spent the night at my house to pick up a chessie puppy that our other friend had brought up from North Carolina. Patti is a chessie gal just like me so she picked up little Nugget two years ago and I got to visit with her again two years later. Jill’s heart is with Golden’s. Just after she got back home with Patti’s new puppy Nugget Jill was anxiously waiting the arrival of her new Golden puppy. Her puppy Danno just turned two this week and I got to play with him also.

We met up in a great big field that Patti and Jill use for their hunt test training. We let the dogs run, play and just have fun. The Chessie’s out numbered the Golden’s 4 to 2, but that didn’t stop them from holding their own.

Run, run, grabass.

More running and chasing and more grabass.

Some Golden fun.

The girls reunion with Pinky and SM.

Danno, Pearl, Nugget.
