There will be some big changes coming up on my blog. You will see a new look, you will see some added features. It may take me some time to get everything in order so bear with me. I’ve finally made the big step to go self hosted. I decided to not have two separate websites (one for my blog, one for my business) and combine them. So for now when you go to http://www.sandspringchesapeakes.com you will not be going to my website you will be directed to my wordpress blog. When you go to http://www.sandspringchesapeakes.wordpress.com you will be directed to my new blog site and my own name of http://www.sandspringchesapeakes.com. If only I had about a week of free time so I can set it all up. I had a ton of information and pictures on my website and I’m feeling like a part of me is missing now. I often got comments from people looking for a Chesapeake puppy that they found my website very helpful and one of the best ones they visited so I hope I can recreate that in my blog setting.
Here are a couple pictures of Norman and Glory having fun at the pond. This was when Glory was about 4 months old.

When Norman was near any water of course he was in it, he loved the water. He also loved to stroll around the banks and look for sticks and tree roots, he would find them and then either pick up the stick and bring it to you to throw or he would grab hold of the tree root and pull until he broke it off so he could bring it to you to throw. All he had on his mind was what he could get to bring you to throw. He loved to retrieve!

More fun at the lake photos today. Norman and Nellie playing, ok so Norman is trying to play and Nellie is being a bully and stealing his toys right out of his mouth. Norman had the personality that if Nellie tried to take them he just let her have them. He was a gentle soul that way, but don’t try and do that with his ducks! A toy no big deal it’s not that important but a duck is a whole another story.

Since we are in the middle of summer which means hot temperatures outside I thought I would post up some photos of Norman enjoying his time at the lake. He loved to jump off the pier, he had been doing it since he was a young boy. We never did dock diving at sanctioned events only at the lake.

2 years ago today I started Nothing But Norman. I wanted a day dedicated to him as a month prior he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and I knew he wouldn’t be with me for very long. I wanted a way to remember him, relive our memories and have a place I could go to when all I wanted was Norman. I was lucky to have had Norman with me for 13 years of his life. Those were 13 wonderful years where many memories were made. Thank you for letting me share our memories with you each week. I truly feel this has helped the grieving process and I feel even closer to him.
The pictures for today were taken 2 years ago when we took a ride to Lake Puckaway. During the 5 months Norman was with us after his diagnosis I had a bucket list for him, the bucket list was a list of places to revisit with Norman that were places we enjoyed when he was younger. He loved lake Puckaway. It was there he learned to ride in a boat, swim, catch fish, icefish but most of all it was a place he got to duck hunt which was his favorite past time in the fall.
This weekend has been special in another way, Glory delivered Normans great grand children. My hopes is that one day the little female we keep will be bred to Norman and I will have another son or daughter straight from my soulmate. Today was special and sad all at the same time. We were blessed with 9 beautiful little burr heads. 6 females and 3 males. We are sad because one of the puppies didn’t make it, she is now an angel watching down on this litter sending them love and strength to become some really special pups to some really special people.
I lit Norman’s candle to show the little one it’s way.
She is buried next to Norman and his flower.
New life bloomed today.
Suellen Appellof was the winner of the contest. She guess correctly (not including the one that passed) Congrats a prezzie will be on it’s way.

Tomorrow is John’s Birthday so I thought I would post up some photo’s of Norman with John. John got his first Chesapeake when he was 16 years old, he trained him to hunt all by himself and when I met John and hunted with them John would tell me that Bear was the best hunting dog he could ever have until we got Norman. John’s feelings changed and he then said that Norman was the dog of a lifetime and he will never have another hunting pal like he had with Norman. I feel the same way but I must admit his son Gambler is growing on me and I’m falling for him just like I fell for Norman.

This weeks #MultiplePetMania blog post theme is Multiple Pet Training. Here at Sand Spring we train multiple pets all the time since we have 3 Chesapeakes and sometimes I guess we train the cat. There are times in our training sessions that we need to train multiple pets at the same time. We do this because in hunt test situations you will have two dogs competing at the same time on the same test. They both won’t be running at the same time but they both will be watching the ducks go down at the same time and will need to sit there and not move. This type of situation would be called a honor for the one dog that already ran the test and needs to sit there and honor the running dog. The running dog watches the marks go down and is released on the bird, after the running dog is released the honor dog is released to go back to the truck. This can be a very difficult situation to train for since the dogs are hunting dogs and retrievers and they both usually want the birds. It takes many obedience lessons and continued training to keep your dog steady. This type of scenario is very helpful and used in real hunting situations to. As you can see from the above photo John is hunting geese in the wheat field. He is hunting with Glory but Norman decided to go sit by him. Both dogs need to lay in the field and not move until one of them is told to go make the retrieve.

This week I planted a new Blanket Flower in memory of Norman.
Norman just loved the blanket flowers I had when he was around. He was always in the flower garden sniffing the blanket flowers and laying by them. I let me beds get out of hand with weeds and such so I’m not sure the patch of blanket flowers will come back this year so I planted a new one for him.
After a good sniff in the flower bed it was time to enjoy the scenery from the deck.
Last weekend I also did some crafty projects and made gingerbread scented Normans Candles. Made of just beeswax to light for all the animals over the rainbow bridge.

This past Wednesday Norman and Fatty’s pups turned 4 years old. Time has flown and I can’t believe it’s been 4 years already. What a full adventurous 4 years it is been.
