Puppy Fitness Videos~FitDog Friday

The puppies have been having fun and getting fit at the same time with their play time outside. I have different obstacles set up for them so it’s like a puppy playground. They all aren’t afraid of any of the obstacles, it’s fun to watch them explore.

Seeing Beautiful In America, Flags, Freedom And Chessie Puppies

{This Moment} See Beautiful

Today I am seeing beauty in the things I love: America, Flags, Freedom and Chessie Puppies. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are one of the few American Bred dogs so it’s only appropriate to take some pictures of my puppies with an American Flag afghan and a old copper tub symbolizing America and freedom.

The girls.

The boys.

MY HEART BELONGS TO A CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER

A rough and ready sporting dog,
With loyal, loving ways-
My Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Puts sunshine in my days.

A dog that’s sure to follow its nose,
Until the chase is done.
When that pup looked up at me,
I knew my heart was won.

Roaming happily by my side,
Or resting at my feet-
My Chesapeake Bay Retriever
Makes my life complete.

Along with Seeing Beautiful this month the puppies are still getting fit or should I say they are helping Grandma Nellie stay fit by chasing  playing with her.

Puppy Fitness With Kong Tunnel~FitDog Friday

I bought the puppies a Kong tunnel. I got this so they can have a interactive so to speak toy and get them used to different items. It’s scary for puppies or adult dogs to go into tunnels so I thought it would be great to get this Kong tunnel and start my puppies out as wee little pups using it so one day if their owners decide to do agility with them they will hopefully retain a foundation for using the tunnel and not be afraid of it. I also got them a cube to play with. These items offer exercise in learning balance as when they go into it and walk it shifts and rolls and the puppies have to learn how to balance and coordination. They work their brain, muscles and legs. I first showed them the tunnel and cube in the house and they got used to it there then we moved outside for a small amount of time to get used to grass and being outside.

This day was their first day outside. It was of course a new adventure for them since they have just been walking on carpet and laminate so they were afraid at first. They have now been out a hand full of times they are getting used to it and more comfortable about it so they are starting to explore. With the exploring they are getting more exercise so they aren’t looking like little butter balls as much.

Swimming For Fun And Fitness~FitDog Friday

A much needed lake visit was in order yesterday so Gambler and Nellie went along for some swimming for fun and fitness. Even know it was just for fun as both dogs were retrieving their puller toy, jumping off the pier and just swimming around at their leisure they were burning calories and getting fit.

Puller fun.

They had some lily pad fun.

Ended with some pier jumping, even 10 3/4 old Nellie jumped off and had fun doing it.

Today Gambler and I are off training once again. He has missed it all week. John and Gambler will be going to another hunt test this weekend and let’s hope he passes so he can get his title and end his weekends for AKC hunt tests this year.

The puppies have a hugh thank you to give out! Yesterday they received their first overseas mail. The package came all the way from France and it came before the puppies went to their new home. It was from the one and only Easy Rider! He is such a caring guy and his staff is pretty great also mailing this stuff out!

and as you can see Easy the black puppy is starting his disrespect early! That’s your favorite.

I would also like to thank each and everyone of you for reading my post yesterday and for all your sweet comments. I read them all and it really helped me out after this tragedy. You all are great and I’m glad to call you my friends!

Tuggo Great Exercise For The Gman~FitDog Friday

Tuggo Dog Toys

A while back our pals Bentley and Pierre from Barking From The Bayou reviewed the Tuggo dog toy. I thought this would be a great toy for the Gman as he is always playing with balls and lifting up blocks of chicken scratch grains so why not have a ball you can add water to in order to make it heavier and give your pet another form of exercise for strength training? I entered the giveaway and low and behold I won. I was super happy but as you can see from the photos Gman was even more happy as he had a new toy in his favorite color lime green. So far he’s the only one that has played with it, if anyone goes near it he goes charging in and takes it from them.

Here is a video of Gman opening up the goods.

Time for some Tuggo fun!

There’s nothing else like Tuggo

Tuggo is an indestructible weighted ball toy that dogs just can’t resist. A sturdy rope runs right through the middle. Knots at either end make it perfect for one dog or two. The leak-proof recessed screw plug lets you add as much water or sand to the ball as you like. Go ahead, experiment. You’ll quickly find the perfect amount of resistance to drive your dog crazy with joy.

Exercise is essential to keep your dog happy and healthy. Both the sloshing sound and weight resistance of our unique creation hold a dog’s attention way longer than conventional toys. Often the fun goes on for hours nonstop!

Gman going into the corn and under the deck to hide “his” toy from the others.

I have not added any water to it yet but it is on the list of things to do, I will let him enjoy it for a bit carrying it around. A big thanks to Tuggo, Melissa, Bentley and Pierre for this fun toy.

Wee Puppy Fitness~FitDog Friday

Today Pink Girl Puppy and Blue Boy Puppy will be turning 1 week old at 10:45 pm. The rest of the gang will need to wait until 12:00 am to turn a week old. In this week the wee puppy are already starting their fitness routine. After watching these guys I really think they have the hardest routines.

First off the were just born and need to learn to walk while having no site or no hearing. All they have is their sense of smell and touch to get around, with saying that they may have to go a long ways to get to mom. Mom gets up and moves around the whelping box so then the wee little ones have to crawl across the box to find mom.

Once by mom they have to crawl to find their spot, there spot may be a certain nipple or

just a snooze on their brother to cover up his junk so this isn’t a porn picture.

One is on the go again, if they aren’t nursing, sleeping they are on the move.

Then their nursing they are exercising their tail as they are wagging a mile a minute burning so many calories.

While nursing they are also strengthening their back leg muscles by having to push themselves up to the nipple, they are also using their front leg muscles to knead while they are nursing. The kneading action stimulates the milk letdown so they get to have milk.

Turning over and rolling over burns calories and gains strength in different muscles.

So you can see the wee puppies even know only a week old have to do so much to grow and be strong. Mom Glory is also doing her part even know she is probably loosing muscle mass because all she does is lay in her whelping box and take care of the puppies only going outside to potty and back in she is burning a ton of calories producing milk and nursing her wee puppies. I have been keeping her food dish filled and adding canned food to get her to eat it all and supplementing with protein bars so she can keep producing milk. It’s a rough life but as you can see from the picture Glory doesn’t mind at all taking care of all her and Thunders precious puppies.

Weeds Can Be Beautiful {This Moment} While Staying Fit~FitDog Friday

Weeds Can Be Beautiful {This Moment} See Beautiful

Most people think that weeds are ugly menacing plant life. I’ll be honest and I think that way, I think that way when I am pulling them out of my garden of beautiful flowers, I think that way when I am picking my raspberries and they are overtaking my vines, I think that way when I am picking my asparagus in my ditch and I happen to touch wild parsnip unknowing to me that I did it until 3 days later when I break out and itch like mad, have sores oozing and open for weeks until they heal is when I think weeds are nasty……..

But you can see the beauty in the weeds when you plant a handsome Gambler in the middle of them.

Gambler was also staying fit this week as we have been continuing our hunt test training. We had our training session then he had some fun bumpers I call these pictures Now You See It, Now You Don’t.

Gambler has a hunt test this weekend. Lets hope he makes it through the three series so he can stay running while Glory and I stay home and have puppies. Glory doesn’t need her pesky brother home to watch her so Gambler how about you be a great big brother and go have fun and stay away now and bring home a ribbon Sunday night.

5 Tips For Exercising Your Pregnant Dog In Warm Weather

Glory is 39 day’s into her pregnancy. She is starting to show as you could see from yesterday’s photos. Glory doesn’t like the heat even when she isn’t pregnant so now that she is pregnant and summer is coming on us she really doesn’t like the heat.

Who you saying is pregnant?

5 Tips For Exercising Your Pregnant Dog In Warm Weather.

1. Exercise early in the morning or later in the evening when the temperature is cooler.

2. Keep exercise sessions short.

3. Incorporate water exercise into your routine to keep them cool on hot days.

4. Always have cold water available for drinking and shade when done exercising.

5. When your dog is further along in her pregnancy and it’s hot out keep the exercise to indoors like playing mind games to keep their mind sharp during this time.

We or should I say Gambler is joining Luke from Wag ‘N Woof Pets along with Peaches and Paprika from Calico Cats of Distinction for International Box Day.

Gambler of course has no interest in sitting in a box he much rather chew it open and eat the contents. At least this time it was his own food. Happy International Box Day from my dog who loves to open and rip up boxes and can do it in record time.

A Chessie’s Determination~Obstacles

For this weeks FitDog Friday post I am going to show you a series of photos showing A Chessie’s Determination~Obstacles.

We went over to our friends place who has a cleaner pond then we have at our house. Our pond is full of green slim so I don’t let the dogs swim in it anymore. My friends pond as you will see is cleaner but has some down trees in the water. Since Gambler is still training for hunt tests we went there to run some blinds which are retrieves that Gambler has to do with John helping him by giving him hand signals. Gambler doesn’t know where the bumper is and John has to guide him to it.

Gambler has swam across the pond and John is guiding him to the bumper.

As you can see the bumper is off to the right and there seems to be a tree in Gamblers path.

Hmmm a fallen tree, I wonder what Gambler is going to do?

Gambler is going to attempt to crawl over the tree.

He almost has it.

Just a little more shoulder strength and kicking with the back leg.

And he is over the obstacle.

Here’s my bumper, I knew it was here all along.

I got it!

Now from this position wouldn’t you think Gambler would just swim out a little bit and go around the tree?

Nope not Gambler, the chessie in him takes him over the obstacle again.

Because that is what chessie’s do, can’t do anything the easy way they have to do it the hard way.

The hard way is great for training thou as it helps build up muscles because I’m sure he has to use muscles he doesn’t normally use to do that type of work and it also gives him mental stimulation. He has to figure out how he is going to get up and over that tree.

A chessie’s determination is like that of no other retriever that I have seen. Which brings me to this story a friend of mine told me about a Chesapeake he saw run at a test.

His words

I will never forget the shear , size , strength and desire of a Chessie .

At a Master Hunt Test in Mississippi I encountered the determination and pure tough desire to retrieve .

The Master Test was a water triple with a double blind . This was the second series and the Chessie was returning with the second bird when it looked back over it’s shoulder , slowed momentarily in the water , then proceeded to complete the retrieve .

As it came out of the water , the judges and complete gallery gazed in shocking amazement at the tar-coated lines and large trotline hooks imbedded in it’s chest and shoulder .

The Chessie retrieved the duck to hand dragging two forty foot lines out of the water , each with a brick anchor , and large ball of grass in tow .

The dog never grimaced or whined as it heeled up to the handler facing the third bird of the triple .

The judges at this point were standing , and insisted that the handler immediately care for the dog .

Then the most unlikely thing happened unless you know Chessie’s ! The dog heeled up , ignored the hooks , and remained totally focused on the third bird .

The handler reached down with his knife , cut both lines at the hooks and sent the dog for a perfect retrieve of a memory bird .

The hooks were removed , and the dog titled as a Master Hunter in the third series !

The largest , strongest and most determined of the retrieving breeds demonstrated his Genetic Roots , as if to say to the gallery .

After the freezing waters of the Chesapeake Bay , the six foot waves and frozen rocks I was bred to hunt amongst , a few fish hooks and a Mississippi mud bottom are No-Big-Deal .
