We welcome your questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated. If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants. Sara ‘Chessie’ Raphael is a pure bred, Chesapeake Bay Retriever that is visually impaired. The vets estimate that she is 8-10 years old at the most. She is so calm, sweet, and loving. She will come and rest her head on your knees and just wait until you start petting her. Because of age and visual impairment, a senior blood panel was done. Everything came back completely normal. It is hard to tell exactly how much she can see or not. There are times that she bumps into a chair right in front of her. Then there are times when she will look at me and if I lift my arm, she tracks whatever movement I make. So while she is definitely not blind, it is difficult to say what the limits of her sight are. She is one of the most loving animals I have ever been privileged to know. Good with everyone and everything. While not a spring chicken, as the saying goes, anyone who shared that time with her would be lucky in deed. Sara is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, house-broken and spayed. Sara’s adoption fee is $200. If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early, as we cannot hold animals. All household members need to be present at time of adoption, including dogs.   1. Sara is beautiful. I wonder if she has PRA? I hope she finds a wonderful home, but at $200 for a senior dog with vision issues, I fear she may linger on foster care for the rest of her days. 😦

  3. I hope 2 Brown Dogs is wrong too, but it is a good point. Why such a high fee for a special needs, older dog? The number of people who might be able to provide her with a home is limited. Many rescues offer senior dogs free to senior humans.
