2 weeks left of pregnancy
Nellie has 2 weeks left of her pregnancy. I measured around her bellie and she measured 27.5 inches. Unfortunately I didn’t measure her when she wasn’t pregnant so don’t know how many inches she has gained, but it sure looks like a lot.
November 3rd Pregnancy Ultrasound
Took Nellie to Veterinary Village for her pregnancy ultrasound today. The doctor confirmed her pregnancy and she saw aleast 4 puppies. Hopefully there will be a couple more. Her first pregnancy she had 6 and her second one she had 7. There was one more puppy than seen on ultrasound the previous litters. We will get a better count on Nov. 28th when I take her in for a xray.

“Nellie” is a petite (60#, 21.5” at the shoulders) dark brown Chessie with a lot of style and energy whether she is running in the field or swimming in the water. She competes in AKC and UKC hunt test events and has fun doing them. She has competed in an AKC field trial also. Nellie currently has her AKC Senior Hunter title and one Master Hunter pass as well as her UKC Hunting Retriever Champion title. Nellie has offspring with hunting titles, therapy dog international title and has a daughter that placed second in the American Chesapeake Club field trial derby. When she isn’t competing she is our family and hunting companion. Nellie hunt’s upland birds and waterfowl, making sure she gets all the birds even if she has to take them away from her father. She is a calm devoted girl with a need to please attitude. She has a strong desire in training and never gives up. She warms the hearts of those she meets with her gentle and calm disposition. She comes from field and show lines with many titles in her pedigree.
One look and you know immediately you are looking at a Chesapeake Bay Retriever when one sees Lefty a.k.a. Port Side’s Great Xpectations, SH. He is a well proportioned larger specimen of the breed, who covers the ground effortlessly. Lefty is most likely the best marking Chesapeake we have owned. It is common to have field judges commenting to us on how good looking Lefty is, while fellow participants tend to joke about his size, his height is within the breed standard. Lefty’s weight today is 101 lbs.
Tends to be a clown, Lefty forgets his size, yet he takes his work in the field very seriously. We are very pleased Lefty is our dog, from our breeding; we had hoped to get a male out of our breeding of Blaze to Essie. We did. We do have great expectations for him. When Lefty isn’t running trials he is out hunting ducks and pheasants. Per Virginia Reed.
Nellie and Lefty’s puppies will be raised in the house. They will be well socialized with other dogs, adults and children. We will be introducing them to pigeons, ducks and pheasants, loud noises and water if the weather is permitable. They will be examined by a Veterinarian: dewclaws removed, appropriate vaccinations, fecal examinations, microchipped, dewormer given and any other medical care they may need. The litter will be DM (degenerative mylopathy) tested. Puppies will come with a written health guarantee plus a puppy kit full of helpful information for raising your new pup. With the parents excellent health backgrounds as well as being proven in hunting and trials these puppies should excel in any avenue you decide to take with them.
We bred Nellie Oct. 1 2011, ultrasound to confirm pregnancy was Nov. 3 2011, whelp around Dec. 1 2011 and puppies to go to new homes Feb 2012.
