FitDog Friday/K9 Kamp KampFire

k9kamp new badge 2014

Today is K9 Kamp and I am joining our Kamp Kounselors/hosts for this event. Be sure to stop over to all of the fine host’s (kamp kounselors) and thank them for a great challenge Peggy’s Pet Place, Slimdoggy, and To Dog With Love.

You can see pictures from our first week of Kamp here. You can see pictures from our second week of Kamp here. The first week I used pink bumpers. The second week I used orange bumpers and then the third week I used dokken dummies, two ducks, a goose and a pheasant. The third week pictures will be in this post.

The Kamp khallenge was hide and seek. When the gang goes out hunting and I want them to search for a scent and flush up a bird I tell them to hunt’em up. That cue lets them know I want them to put there nose to the ground and search for a scent, it means they better be working and not just running amuck. I will also use this command if I have shoot something and we are in the area of the fall I will tell them to hunt’em up and they will search for the bird and bring it back to me.  This khallenge was all done outside in the snow. I hid bumpers in the snow then took each dog (Gambler and Glory) out one at a time and told them to hunt’em up.

The first week: Gambler

Glory

Since the snow was so deep if the bumpers were under the snow the dogs had a hard time finding the bumpers. Rubber bumpers don’t have much smell when frozen or being placed in snow. They were so excited to finally get out and do something they ran around before they focused on a spot and then did a victory lap after they found it.

Second week: Gambler

Glory

The second week we had more snow and still freezing cold weather. The orange bumpers didn’t make the Khallenge any easier. They did pick up on maybe they should start with my boot tracks and go from there so they got the bumpers faster. you could see how fast they were running looking for their bumpers as when they got a wiff of it they put the breaks on and turned.

Third week: Gambler

Video of Glory doing her Khallenge.

The third week was just as deep of snow and just as cold. The dokkens were easier to find as some of them were so big they couldn’t get buried under the snow. Once again they were so excited to go do something when I said hunt’em up like in Gamblers video he took off in to no mans land just a running and I had to steer him to the spot. Glory was much smarter and ran right to the garden to hunt up her find. It was a fun khallenge and it got us out of the house and do something.

Quail Treats From Chewy.com

Chewy.com

What would your dog do for Freeze-Dried Wysong Dream Quail Treats?

Gambler and Glory would sit pretty on the couch for a quail treat.

Of course when Chewy.com  asked me if I would like to try their Wysong Dream Quail Freeze-Dried Treat I jumped at the chance to have my bird dogs try the Quail. Being that they are hunters they don’t get to eat fresh birds so why not let them try freeze dried quail and give them a special treat.

Lookie, Lookie what came in the mail.

A great time was had by all, many people stopped to pet the dogs and get information on the breed. The most asked questions were if they are aggressive and hard to train. My answer is they are not aggressive if gotten from a good breeder and brought up right and you can’t train them like you train a lab. Chesapeakes have gotten a bad rap from years ago but they have come a long ways with responsible breeders and people learning about the breed and knowing how to raise one.

Nothing But Norman #31

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Project16 - Copy - Copy - Copy

This first picture is not in sepia, I wanted to keep the maroon colors as I thought it was too pretty to change. I made this picture for my friends daughter. Ella is 4 years old (I believe, not good with knowing children’s ages). She had never met Norman. I work with her mom and Norman was her favorite out of my gang. She has pictures of Norman on her phone. Her daughter Ella would look at the photos on her phone and then the day came Brenda needed to tell Ella that Norman died. Ever since then Ella will look at her phone and when she comes across Norman’s picture she will say “Poor Normis, he was a good boy”. Brenda would tell Ella that she never met Norman and that didn’t matter, she knew he was a good boy. Now at random moments Ella will still say “Poor Normis, he was a good boy” when she comes across his picture. So I made this picture of Ella and Normis together so she can have him with her. She melts my heart and now I call Norman Normis.

DSC_0528 - Copy

The love from my friends over losing Norman keeps pouring in. It always comes at a time when I need it. I’ve been so good and I think of Norman all the time and usually don’t cry but this past week I was thinking of what I was going to do for my This Moment~See Beautiful post and I thought of Norman and shed a tear. I got home from work and there was a package from Bittersweet Ridge Jewelry. I knew right away who it was from and couldn’t imagine why I got something as I hadn’t ordered anything or won a contest from For Love Of A Dog blog. When I opened up the package tucked neatly inside was brown tissue paper sealed with a heart, inside that was a beautiful card wishing me a Happy Valentines Day. I got a beautiful Chesapeake pin that was a little something in memory of Norman and Brooke. It wasn’t little it was hugh, something that I will wear in pride and smile knowing Norman and Brooke are with me always. Thank you so much Susan for being so darn thoughtful and thinking of me and knowing just what to do. I am so blessed to have you in my life!

For those of you who haven’t seen all the wonderful jewelry and know that Susan has her own business and hand crafts all her items pop on over to For Love Of A Dog and see if she can’t get you a beautiful piece.

Now onto Sepia Saturday hosted by Ruckus The Eskie. Since I started with a child I thought I would finish with a child. Here are some pictures of Norman with my nephew Joeys nuk. If you look closely in the pictures you will see he is holding it in his mouth. This just cracked us up. He also would carry around Joey’s balloon animals without popping them.

On a much sadder note I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to a blogging friend who lost her beloved Kobi from Wag ‘N Woof Pets on Thursday. Norman greeted Kobi with open paws over the Rainbow Bridge. Together they will run and play and look down on us and send us love from above. I leave you with my favorite poem. RIP Kobi 10/2000 – 2/13/2014

CREATION

When God made the Earth and sky, the flowers and the trees,

He then made all the animals, and all the birds & bees.

And when his work was finished, not one was quite the same,

He said, “I’ll walk this earth of mine, and give each one a name.”

And so he traveled land & sea, and everywhere he went,

A little creature followed him, until its strength was spent.

When all were named upon the earth, and in the sky & sea,

The little creature said, “Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me.”

The father sniffed and softly said, “I’ve left you till the end,

I’ve turned my own name back to front, and called you Dog,

My friend”.
